09/18/2019 (Tunisia) - Social media feeds are reporting that climate change activists have scheduled a protest in Tunis for Friday, 20 September. Supporters/members of the Youth for Climate Tunisia group will gather in Tunis at Avenue Habib Bourguiba between 0900hrs-1400hrs (0800-1300 UTC). Reports then state that the group will first gather at Bourguiba's statue, after which they will head to the Municipal Theatre for a sit-in protest. Heightened security measures and localised travel disruptions are likely to occur.
Members in Tunis are advised to avoid any demonstrations due to the security risk that they pose. Large crowds should be avoided and strong situational awareness should be maintained at all times. Members should be mindful of the protest action and anticipate a surge in travel disruption, and demand for alternative transport services.
