Military Carry Out Shelling in Kasserine Governorate as Part of Counter-Terrorism Operations

09/14/2019 (Tunisia) - According to local media sources, the Tunisian army fired artillery shells on Mount Chaambi and other mountains in Kasserine governorate on Friday, 13 September. Military sources stated that the bombardments were part of their routine operations in the region to restrict and track down armed militant groups known to be active in the area. Much of the area is a closed military zone to allow the operations to take place.

Members are advised to monitor local media sources to remain apprised of further militant activity and security operations in the area and should heed any directives issued by security forces and local authorities. Due to the threat of militant attacks and security forces counter-operations, travellers should exercise a heightened level of vigilance and immediately report any suspicious items or activity to security forces.
