Health officials raised the A/H1N1 flu virus alarm even higher on December 17th after the death toll rose to more than 440 reported cases, with half recorded in December, state-controlled media reported. The government inoculated more than 34 million people in an effort to combat the disease, with official media vouching for the safety of the vaccine amid popular concern about possible risks after two people died. The death toll may have been high for quite some time, however, previous cases were allegedly reported by middle ranking cadres.
