April 30, 2009. Authorities Confirm First Case of Swine Flu in Peru

On 29 April 2009 authorities officially confirmed the first case of swine flu in Peru. The victim, an Argentine national traveling from California to Argentina, reported feeling unwell after a brief layover in Mexico and requested an unscheduled stop in Peru. The patient was immediately transferred to a hospital in the Callao province, where she remains quarantined. Officials report that 5,146 passengers hailing from North America have been examined for evidence of flu-like symptoms at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport (SPIM/LIM).
