10/27/2020 (New Caledonia) - The Union of Kanak and Exploited Workers (USTKE) has called for a general strike and demonstrations on Friday, October 30, to oppose the planned sale of the VALE nickel plant. The industrial action will take place over 24 hours on Friday. Although it is currently unclear where the demonstrations will take place, previous rallies regarding the issue have been held in Noumea in the vicinity of the company's office there and the French High Commission.
A heightened security presence should be anticipated in the vicinity any protests, along with disruptions to overland travel.

Individuals in the area are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution.
