10/27/2020 (Somalia) - Suspected militants assassinated two government officials on the outskirts of Mogadishu on Tuesday, October 27, with a further three people being killed in a subsequent vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) blast. The officials were reportedly travelling through the city's western Kahda district to conduct work as part of a UNICEF-supported polio vaccination campaign when their vehicle was ambushed at around 13:50 (local time). The pair were shot dead in the attack and the gunmen fled the scene in the hijacked car, abandoning their own vehicle at the scene. As crowds gathered in the area following the attack, the vehicle abandoned by the attackers is reported to have exploded, killing three onlookers and wounding ten others. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but Al-Shabaab militants frequently carry out firearm and bomb attacks in and around Mogadishu.
Localized disruptions are likely in the area in the near term.

Those in Mogadishu are advised to avoid the area of the incident in the immediate term, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
