10/27/2020 (Yemen) - Unidentified gunmen fatally attacked the Houthi Minister for Sport and Youth in Sana'a on Tuesday, October 27. Reports indicate that Hassan Zaid died from his wounds in hospital after assailants opened fire on his car in the city's Diplomatic Area. Zaid's daughter, who was traveling with him in the vehicle, was also seriously injured in the incident. Responsibility for the attack was not immediately claimed. Assassinations of Houthi officials are rare but infighting has occasionally led to violence between different factions over key positions and influence.
Similar attacks targeting officials from Houthi and government and allied forces are to be expected in Yemen over the near term.

Due to poor security conditions, many Western governments strongly advise their citizens against all travel to Yemen. Travel to the country should only be considered with proper security protocols in place. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
