10/27/2020 (Angola) - Further demonstrations outside of the Provincial Court of Luanda are anticipated on Tuesday, October 27, during the trial of protesters arrested during anti-government protests in the capital on Saturday, October 24. Reports indicate that the trial was to commence at 09:00 (local time), having been postponed on Monday, October 26, due to issues which delayed the commencement of the trial. Those arrested are facing charges of bodily harm and property damage and include activists, politicians, and journalists, although reports suggest that the journalists have since been released. Over 100 people were arrested in the demonstrations on Saturday, during which police utilized tear gas to disperse the crowds. Protesters set up roadblocks in response to the police intervention. Those gathered were denouncing the high cost of living, among other issues.
Further protesters regarding the issue are possible in Luanda in the near term. A heightened security presence and associated disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of protest sites.

Those in Luanda are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
