Demonstrators gather in cities nationwide against COVID-19 restrictions October 26

10/27/2020 (Italy) - Demonstrators gathered in cities nationwide on Monday, October 26, to denounce recently introduced coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions. In Turin, protesters gathered the vicinity of Piazza Castello, and reports suggest protesters have thrown smoke bombs at the police cordon in the vicinity of Palazzo della Regione and at Palazzo Madama, where law enforcement dispersed protesters. One person was injured during clashes in Turin. In Milan, demonstrators gathered on Corso Buenos Aires before marching on to the office of the regional government for Lombardy onVia Melchiorre Gioia. Protesters also threw firecrackers and Molotov cocktails at police. Gatherings were also reported in Catania, Cremona, Palermo, and Treviso. Whilst in Viareggio, protesters blocked roads and threw smoke bombs. In Naples, demonstrators gathered at Piazza Plebiscito before marching on to the government office of Campania on Via Raffaele De Cesare.
Further protesters regarding the issue are possible across Italy in the near term.

Those in Italy are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
