10/26/2020 (Afghanistan) - A US airstrike targeted Taliban militants in Wardak province on Sunday evening, October 25, killing at least five. The airstrike was announced by US Colonel Sonny Leggett on social media, who stated that it was conducted in support of Afghan forces and was in accordance with terms of the US withdrawal agreement struck with the Taliban in February. However, the Taliban subsequently denied that there had been fighting in the area when the strike took place.
Further security operations are likely to take place in Wardak province in the near to medium term.

Those in Afghanistan are advised to avoid the affected area, remain vigilant for possible militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
