Bandits target traders in Bura (Tana River County) October 25

10/26/2020 (Kenya) - Armed bandits attacked traders in the Bangale area of Bura (Tana River County) on Sunday, October 25, as they were traveling to a livestock market in Kaniki. Reportedly, the attackers robbed the traders of their possessions and stole money, shooting two of the traders in the legs and causing minor injuries to the other four. Local authorities stated that police were deployed to the area to pursue the bandits and carry out investigations.
A heightened security presence is to be anticipated in the area of the attack in the near term. Further banditry is to be anticipated in the region over the medium term.

Those operating in Tana River County are advised to avoid the area in the near term and should exercise a heightened sense of situational awareness given the persistent threat from criminal activity and immediately report any suspicious activity to security forces. Travelers are advised to ensure that security management protocols remain commensurate with the prevailing local threat environment.
