10/26/2020 (Turkey) - Security forces killed at least two militants during clashes in Iskenderun (Hatay province) on Monday, October 26, during which a large blast occurred. Reports suggest that clashes broke out after the suspects were pursued after being identified at a checkpoint. In the subsequent fighting, one of the militants is believed to have detonated an explosive device in the vicinity of Fener Street; however, this has not been confirmed. Although a number of people sustained minor injuries from shattered glass, no other fatalities beyond the militants have been reported. Emergency services are continuing to respond to the scene.
Localized disruptions and a heightened security presence are likely in Iskenderun in the immediate term.
Those in Iskenderun are advised to avoid the affected area, remain vigilant, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
