Government troops clash with Mai-Mai fighters in Lubero (North Kivu province) October 25

10/26/2020 (Congo (Kinshasa)) - Government troops clashed with suspected fighters from the Mazembe Mai-Mai group on Sunday, October 25, during continued military operations in Lubero (North Kivu province). Government forces killed at least one rebel and captured two others during the clashes which occurred as security forces targeted rebels in Kanzana area. A number of camps used by the rebels were also destroyed. Military operations had previously been carried out in the area on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24.
Further clashes in the area are possible in the near term.
Context
The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the area.

Those in North Kivu province are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity, monitor developments to the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
