Reported casualties in Kabul suicide attack rise October 24

10/25/2020 (Afghanistan) - The reported casualties in the Saturday, October 24, suicide bombing of an educational center in Kabul's Police District 13 (PD13) have risen to at least 24 people dead, with 57 others injured. The attack reportedly targeted the Kawsar-e Danish educational center in the Pul-e Khoshk area of Dasht-e Barchi, in western Kabul. The attacker was stopped by security guards as he attempted to gain access to the building before detonating an explosive device. The area is predominantly Shia, a minority in Afghanistan, and several large-scale attacks attributed to the Islamic State have taken place there in recent years. The group has claimed responsibility for the attack through social media channels, although it has presented no evidence.
Localized disruptions are possible in the abovementioned area in the near term. Those in Kabul should be mindful of the possibility of further attacks.
Those in Kabul are advised to avoid the affected area, remain vigilant for possible militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
