Gunmen kill two villagers in Katsina State October 24-25

10/25/2020 (Nigeria) - A group of gunmen attacked Bilbis village and Yantuwaru community in the Faskari Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina state on Saturday, October 24, and early Sunday, October 25, which left at least two villagers killed and six others abducted. The suspected bandits stormed Bilbis village at around 01:30 (local time) on Sunday morning, arriving on motorcycles and shooting sporadically for approximately an hour. At least one person was killed and three others were kidnapped, the attackers also broke into several homes and stole valuables. Similarly, the bandits attacked the Yantuwaru community on Saturday, killing one person and abducting three.
Similar attacks are likely in Katsina state in the near term.
Context
Bandit attacks have become an increasing threat in northwest Nigeria in recent years amid rising communal tensions, with Katsina state having seen repeated outbreaks of such violence. High-profile security operations have previously had little success in reducing violence in the northwest.

Those in Katsina state are advised to monitor developments to the situation and adhere to all directives and advice issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
