10/24/2020 (India) - The political party Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has called on supporters to demonstrate across Tamil Nadu state on Saturday, October 24, to demand that the government ban Manusmriti, a Hindu religious text the VCK leaders say encourages sexism and violence towards women. The demonstrations are expected to take place from 15:00 (local time) on Saturday, however, the location of the events is yet to be announced. Protest flashpoints are likely to be government facilities, with the largest turnout likely being in Chennai.
Due to the religious aspect of the demonstration counter demonstrations and violence is possible between rival groups of protestors.
A heightened security presence and localized travel disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations.

Those in Tamil Nadu state are advised to monitor developments, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
