10/24/2020 (Azerbaijan) - On Saturday, October 24, the US Embassy in Azerbaijan issued an advisory warning of a possible terrorist threat to US and foreign nationals in Baku. The statement said that the Embassy had received credible reports of a threat of attacks or kidnappings against targets within the city, including hotels such as the J.W. Marriott Absheron, although it offered no comment on the origins of the threat. The Embassy has advised US citizens to exercise heightened vigilance in areas frequented by foreign nationals and has announced no further actions regarding the threat.
A heightened security presence is likely at US and western-linked sites over the near term.
Those in Azerbaijan are advised to monitor the situation, exercise a heightened sense of awareness at all times, and report any suspicious items or activity to authorities.
