Voting begins in first round of parliamentary elections October 24-25

10/24/2020 (Egypt) - On Saturday, October 24, polling stations opened in Egypt as the first round of the country's parliamentary elections commenced. The first round of voting will end on Sunday, October 25, with a second round scheduled to be held on November 7-8. Following this, run offs are expected to be held late November and early December.
Heightened security measures should be anticipated amid the voting, including additional security deployed around polling stations. Associated demonstrations and political gatherings are possible. Localized traffic disruptions should also be anticipated throughout Egypt's urban centers during the polls.

Those in Egypt are advised to monitor the situation, avoid demonstrations and political gatherings, and heed any instructions issued by local authorities.
