10/22/2020 (Lebanon) - Protests should be anticipated across Lebanon, including in the capital Beirut, on Thursday, October 22, over the appointment of a new Lebanese prime minister. The former prime minister, Saad Hariri who was in office from 2009-2011 and 2016-2020, is expected to be appointed. Political parties such as the Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Forces reportedly do not support the new appointment of Hariri and are expected to organize political rallies to denounce him. Flashpoints for potential gatherings are central squares and government buildings nationwide. Clashes between supporters of rival parties are possible.
A heightened security presence and associated disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of any gatherings.

Those in Lebanon are advised to monitor developments, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
