Public transport strike to take place in Bavaria on October 26, 27

10/22/2020 (Germany) - The trade union Verdi, which represents 87,000 workers from 130 public transport companies across the country, has called on its members to stage a strike across Bavaria on Monday, October 26, and Tuesday, October 27, following unsuccessful negotiations over working hours. Multiple cities are due to be impacted by the strike on Monday, including Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Furth, Coburg, Bamberg, Aschaffenburg, Ingolstadt, Passau, and Schweinfurt. The hours during which the walkout will take place will vary by city, but tram, bus, and U-Bahn (metro) networks are expected to be impacted in each city. In Regensburg, Coburg, Wurzburg, Aschaffenburg, and Kaufbeuren, the strike will be in effect on both Monday and Tuesday. In Bavaria, Verdi primarily wants to reduce the burden on the approximately 6,300 municipal employees who they believe are overworked.
Further nationwide disruptions to service related to the dispute may take place in the near term.
Those in Bavaria are advised to monitor local media sources in order to stay abreast of any developments regarding the strike-action and adjust their itineraries accordingly to account for the disruptions to services.
