Protests scheduled in Uttar Pradesh state for October 22

10/21/2020 (India) - Opposition protests are scheduled to take place in Uttar Pradesh state on Thursday, October 22. The demonstrations have been organized by the Indian National Congress (INC) and are being held to condemn the agricultural policies of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including policies regarding support for rice farmers. The demonstrations are set to take place in each of Uttar Pradesh State's 75 district headquarters. The exact timings and locations of the protests have not yet been announced, however, agricultural markets, government buildings, and public squares are likely locations.
A heightened security presence and associated disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of any protest sites. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
Those in Uttar Pradesh state are advised to monitor developments, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
