10/16/2020 (Mali) - The US Embassy in Mali issued a demonstration alert ahead of a planned protest on Friday, October 16, in the capital Bamako. The alert states that the Platform for the Awakening and Reform of the Association of Malian Students (CRR-AEEM) group has called for supporters to gather at Monument de l'Independence at 10:00 (local time) before marching to the Ministry of Higher Education, near Cité Administrative.
Though the reason for the demonstration remains unclear, a heightened security presence and associated disruptions should be expected in the vicinity of the march route. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Those in Bamako are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests due to the risk of violence, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
