10/15/2020 (Congo (Kinshasa)) - Security forces in Kinshasa used tear gas to disperse a march organized by the political opposition on Wednesday, October 14. The march, which had been declared illegal by Kinshasa's governor, started 08:00 (local time) and was quickly dispersed by police. The organizer, Martin Fayulu, was stopped on his way to the gathering and his tires were punctured. Opposition parties have stated that they would hold further rallies in the coming days in response to the dispersal.
Further protests are likely in Kinshasa in the near term. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions should be anticipated in the vicinity of protests. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Those in Kinshasa and Uvira are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution.
