10/13/2020 (Congo (Kinshasa)) - Activists from the Engagement for Citizenship and Development (ECIDe) party, led by Martin Fayulu Madidi, will gather for a protest on Wednesday, October 14, in the capital Kinshasa to promote national unity and to denounce the establishment of the rural commune of Minembwe. Participants will reportedly gather at 08:00 (local time) at Pascal Square before marching to the Triomphal field and Avenue de I'Enseignement via boulevards Lumumba, Sendwe, and Triomphal. The march is likely to be well attended. Associated demonstrations will likely be held in Uvira (South Kivu province).
A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions should be anticipated in the vicinity of protests. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.
Those in Kinshasa and Uvira are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution.
