10/01/2020 (Mali) - Demonstrators are set to gather in the capital Bamako on Friday, October 2, to demand the release of a popular local singer who was recently arrested on assault charges. Participants are set to gather from 14:00 (local time) at Monument de l'Independance. A similar rally in Bamako on September 26 denouncing the alleged assault passed off peacefully.
A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are expected near any demonstration sites, and clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Those in Bamako are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests due to the risk of violence, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
