09/25/2020 (Mali) - Demonstrators plan to gather in Bamako to denounce gender-based violence in the country on Saturday, September 26. The Platform against Gender-Based Violence has called for protesters to gather at 08:00 (local time) at the Monument de L'Indépendence from where they will march to Centre Awa.
Demonstrations in the city have often turned violent and resulted in clashes between protesters and the security forces, the use of tear gas to disperse crowds, and the burning of tires and the blockage of main roads and bridges.A heightened security presence and localized disruptions to transport are to be expected in the vicinity of any demonstrations.
Those in Bamako are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid all protests or demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
