Heavy rainfall forecast nationwide until September 30

09/24/2020 (Ethiopia) - Further heavy rainfall is forecast across parts of Ethiopia until at least Wednesday, September 30. Recent flooding has already left over 144,000 people displaced along the Awash River in Afar regional stateand overall has impacted over 240,000 people, destroyed over 200 rural roads, damaged six bridges, and damaged at least 140,000 acres (56,656 hectares) of crops.
Further rain could bring flooding, landslides, and associated disruption to transport and utilities in the coming days. Western, southern, and southeastern areas are forecast to be worst-hit in the coming days.

Those in Ethiopia are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
