09/14/2020 (Pakistan) - Military officials announced on Sunday, September 13, that four suspected militants, including a senior commander, were killed during a planned security operation in the Waziristan region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The group are reported to have been killed in a firefight with troops following an intelligence-based operation in the Ghariom area between the North and South Waziristan agencies. It is currently unclear which group the suspected militants were affiliated with, but multiple militant organizations, including Taliban factions, are active in the Waziristan region.
Sunday's operation follows a similar raid in the Mirali area of North Waziristan on September 7 in which five suspected militants, including an alleged cell leader, were killed.
Further security operations are likely in the region in the medium term.

Those in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and Pakistan more generally, are advised to remain vigilant at all times and report any suspicious activity to security forces. Due to a high threat from terrorism, as well as kidnapping and sectarian violence, some Western governments advise their citizens to reconsider travel to some areas of Pakistan, including the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
