Protests scheduled to be held in southwest states from September 14

09/14/2020 (Nigeria) - Student-led protests are scheduled to take place across the southwestern states of Nigeria from Monday, September 14, over electricity and fuel price hikes in the region. Student activists associated with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Zone D have organized the demonstrations in protest at increases in fuel and electricity prices imposed by the government, the groups had given the government until Sunday, September 13, to reverse the price increase.
There are currently no specific details of the time or location of the protests. However, likely impacted states include Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo.
Associated business and transportation disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of the protest, as well as a heightened security presence

Those in southwestern Nigeria are advised to monitor developments, avoid protests and large public gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
