09/14/2020 (India) - On Monday, September 14, the Bihar Truck Owners' Association (BTOA) launched an indefinite strike in Bihar state which hundreds of thousands of transport vehicle drivers are supporting. Organizers are demanding a revision of the Motor Vehicles Act and the opening of key bridges to heavy vehicles. Striking truck drivers reportedly erected roadblocks in multiple locations on Monday, leading to localized overland travel disruption. Disruptions to commercial services in the state, including delivery delays, and supply chain interruptions, should be anticipated during the strike action.

Associated demonstrations are possible as the strike continues; clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out. Further disruptions to overland travel and business services are also likely in the near term.

Those in Bihar state are advised to avoid all associated demonstrations as a precaution, monitor developments, anticipate transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
