09/13/2020 (Nepal) - Landslides and flooding triggered by heavy rainfall in Bahrabise municipality have killed at least 11 people with dozens of others missing as of Sunday, September 13. Rescue efforts are ongoing with reports that the landslides washed away 28 homes in the region on Saturday night have possibly left survivors trapped in the rubble. Nepal's Army, the Armed Police Force, and residents have been mobilized for relief and rescue operations, which have been hampered by inclement weather.
During the annual May-September monsoon rains, landslides and flooding are common in Nepal. Further adverse weather is possible and disruptions to travel and infrastructure should be anticipated.
Those in the affected area are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid landslide-prone areas, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to local authorities' instructions.
