Nationwide gender-based violence protests scheduled until September 13

09/11/2020 (Pakistan) - Nationwide protests against gender-based violence are scheduled to continue across Pakistan until at least Sunday, September 13. The demonstrations began following the sexual assault of a local woman along the Lahore-Sialkot highway (Punjab province) on September 9. The demonstrations are expected to occur throughout urban centers of Pakistan including Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
Associated business and transportation disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of the protest, as well as a heightened security presence. However, previous rallies over the issue have passed peacefully.
Those in Pakistan are advised to closely monitor developments, avoid all protests and large public gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
