Suicide bombing in Kismayo results in multiple dead September 11

09/11/2020 (Somalia) - Local reports state a suicide bombing at a mosque near downtown Kismayo has led to at least three people killed and seven others wounded on Friday, September 11. Unconfirmed reports state that the incident took place in front of the Qadim mosque and that the attack is believed to have been carried out by Al-Shabaab militants who were targeting the chairman of the Jubaland Chamber of Commerce, Shafi Rabi Kahi. Although unconfirmed, Kahi is reported to have succumbed to his injuries.
A heightened security force presence should be anticipated in the area following the blast while investigations into the incident are being carried out.
Individuals in Kismayo are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
