Emerging reports of explosion at military facility north of Khartoum September 11

09/11/2020 (Sudan) - An explosion was reported at a military facility north of Khartoum in the early hours of Friday, September 11, following a fire at the base. The blast is reported to have struck the Al-Dhakira camp, around 15km (10 miles) north of the capital, after a fire broke out during an electrical storm and spread to an ammunition storage area. However, the extent of the damage and casualties from the incident is currently unclear.
Emergency response operations are ongoing in the area and localized disruptions are likely in the near term.

Those in Al-Dhakira are advised to avoid the area of the incident in the immediate term due to the ongoing emergency response operations, heed any directives issued by local authorities, and keep doors and windows closed in case of toxic fumes.
