09/11/2020 (Jordan) - A series of large explosions were reported at a military facility in the city of Zarqa, around 20 km (12 miles) northeast of Amman, on the evening of Thursday, September 10. A large fire is believed to have broken out at the base in the Ghabawi area, with a number of nearby buildings having reportedly been damaged in the blast. Local media sources report that several people were injured in the incident but this has yet to be confirmed. The cause of the explosion is currently unclear, but unconfirmed local reports suggest that the site was being used to store explosives and surplus ammunition.
Emergency response operations are ongoing in the area and localized disruptions are likely in the near term.

Those in Zarqa are advised to avoid the Ghabawi area in the immediate term due to the ongoing emergency response operations and should keep doors and windows closed in case of toxic fumes.
