At least 16 killed, thousands homeless in Bauchi state floods September 11

09/11/2020 (Nigeria) - Heavy rainfall and associated flooding have killed at least 16 people and destroyed more than 3000 homes, displacing residents in 11 of 21 Local Government Areas of Bauchi state as of Friday, September 11. The affected local government areas include: Shira, Dambam, Katagum, Jammare, Warji, Itas, Alkaleri, Bauchi, Zaki, Kirfi, and Gamawa
. The Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA)
has promised emergency shelter and supplies to affected residents.
Further rainfall is expected over the near term. Disruption to transportation, business, and utilities is likely.

Those in Bauchi state are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
