09/11/2020 (Nigeria) - Heavy rainfall and associated flooding have damaged at least 50 homes, displacing hundreds of residents in the Agwara Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger state as of Friday, September 11. The worst affected area was the Gallah ward of Agwara LGA. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)
is set to convene to determine a mitigation response over the coming days.
Further rainfall is expected over the near term. Disruption to transportation, business, and utilities is likely.
Those in Niger state are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
