09/10/2020 (Iraq) - Local media report that two rounds of indirect fire (IDF) impacted near Baghdad International Airport (BGW) at 15:21 (local time). Initial reports indicate that the rounds may have originated from the Furat area southeast of the airport and were aimed at Camp Victory within the airport. No casualties have been reported.
The airport incident is the latest in a series of attacks against targets associated with the presence of US troops in Iraq and comes a day after US officials announced that more than 2000 troops would be withdrawn from the country, bringing the total number in-country to approximately 3000.
Further attacks targeting BGW and other targets associated with the presence of foreign troops are expected to continue in the near term.
Context
The last reported use of rocket fire against BGW occurred on August 30 when two rockets landed in the vicinity of Camp Victory. Such attacks have increased in Baghdad recently following a brief lull and these have been attributed to pro-Iranian militias.

Individuals in the area are advised to monitor developments, avoid the affected area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
The security environment in Iraq remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to all travel.
