09/10/2020 (Kenya) - Residents have gathered in central Kisii town (Kisii County) on Thursday, September 10, to protest a visit by Deputy President William Ruto to the area. Ruto is scheduled to meet with local leaders and business representatives throughout the day. Local sources have reported that protesters have erected illegal roadblocks and set tires and other objects alight in response to the visit. The protests are reportedly in response to recent claims of land grabbing by a former mayor.
Further unrest is possible over the near term and a heightened security presence and localized disruptions are likely in the vicinity of any demonstrations.

Those in Kisii town are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
