09/09/2020 (India) - Medical workers affiliated with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) are scheduled to demonstrate across Maharashtra state on Thursday, September 10, against the government's decision to cap prices for the treatment of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at private hospitals. One group of demonstrators plans to gather at Azad Maidan in Mumbai and protests are planned at civic offices throughout the state.
A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are expected near the protest sites. Police may disperse the protests on the ground that large gatherings remain prohibited in India under COVID-19 restrictions.
Individuals in Maharashtra state are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
