09/09/2020 (Pakistan) - Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP), is scheduled to appear at the Accountability Courts in Islamabad on Wednesday, September 9. Rallies by PPP supporters associated with the trial are possible around the court and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) headquarters during the hearing. The rallies are likely to be well attended.
A heightened security presence is expected at the two likely protest sites on Wednesday and localized disruption to transport is to be anticipated in the vicinity of any rallies.
Context
Zardari was arrested by NAB officials on June 10 on money laundering charges. The NAB has previously arrested other opposition leaders and PPP supporters claim that the arrest is part of a political vendetta by Prime Minister Imran Khan and the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.

Those in Islamabad are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
