09/09/2020 (France) - The General Confederation of Labour (CGT) union has given notice that strike action will take place across France on Thursday, September 17, to call for prioritization of social and environmental issues in economic development, and to denounce the government's current economic recovery plan. The CGT has stated that the strike is not a general strike; however, it has called for members to demonstrate. The section of the CGT governing rail workers has also sent notification of planned strike action. The Fédération Syndicale Unitaire (FSU) group of public service unions has stated that it will also be partaking in the strike. Student unions also stated that they will be holding demonstrations throughout the day.
Disruptions to rail services are possible across France on September 17. Additional disruptions to travel and business and associated unrest are also possible.
Individuals in France are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, monitor developments, anticipate transportation and business disruptions near protest sites, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities. Those planning on utilizing alternative overland transportation methods during the strike period should also be aware of a surge in demand for these services.
