09/08/2020 (South Africa) - Protesters have blocked the N4 highway in North West province towards Zeerust in the vicinity of Dinokana on Tuesday, September 8. Demonstrators blocked both lanes of the highway to protest against deficiencies in local service delivery. It is unclear if police have deployed to the area to disperse the gathering.
Associated disruptions are likely to continue in the area over the near term.
Individuals in the area are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, plan alternative routes if traveling, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities. Travelers encountering a protest or roadblock should never attempt to drive through it, as such actions may provoke a violent response from demonstrators, including attacks on vehicles.
