Islamic State claims Sousse knife attack on September 6

09/08/2020 (Tunisia) - On Monday, September 7, the Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for a knife attack carried out in Sousse on Sunday, September 6. The group announced via one of their social media channels that their fighters had carried out the attack.
During the attack militants rammed their vehicle into a National Guard checkpoint at a junction in Sousse's port area, before stabbing the National Guard officers on duty. The attack resulted in one security officer being killed and another injured. Three assailants were shot dead following the attack and seven others detained as security forces pursued them and a gunfight broke out.
A heightened security presence is expected in the area over the near term.

Individuals in Tunisia are advised to remain vigilant due to the continuing terror threat, adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities, and report any suspicious objects or behavior.
