Activists to stage demonstrations nationwide September 9

09/08/2020 (Peru) - Activists from various organizations have called for nationwide demonstrations on Wednesday, September 9, to demand the government pass legislation against alleged predatory lending practices and to freeze debt for one year. Although exact locations and timings of protests are yet to be announced, likely flashpoints include banks and other financial institutions, along with main squares throughout Peru in major urban centers such as Lima, Trujillo, and Arequipa.
Demonstrations are to be anticipated across the country and associated disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of any protest site.
Those in Peru are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
