09/08/2020 (United States) - An ongoing wildfire in Okanogan and Douglas counties (Washington state) has prompted evacuation orders in both counties as of Monday, September 7. The 'Cold Spring Canyon/Pearl Hill' fire started overnight on Sunday, September 6 to September 7 and has since engulfed over 13 sq miles (32 sq km). A level three evacuation order (highest on a three-tiered scale) is in place for residents in Mansfield(Douglas) and the Cameron Lake area (Okanogan). Residents in Bridgeport (Douglas) are under a level two (second highest) evacuation order. Several major roadways, including Highway 172 and State Route 17, have been closed due to poor visibility.
Further spread of the fires is likely in the near term. An emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.
Those in the vicinity of the fires are advised to monitor the situation, avoid the area, anticipate possible transport disruption due to firefighting operations and road closures, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
