08/31/2020 (Ethiopia) - Regional elections will be held in Tigray state on Wednesday, 9 September, and election-related demonstrations and unrest are possible. Recent polls have heightened political tensions between state officials and federal authorities and provoked rivalries between ethnic groups in Tigray and neighbouring Amharastate.
Political rallies and demonstrations are expected in the days leading up to the election. Protests are also possible at polling stations on the day of the election.

Those in Tigray state are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
