Ongoing security incident at Mogadishu prison August 10

08/10/2020 (Somalia) - Gunfire was reported inside Mogadishu's Central Prison on Monday, August 10, amid an ongoing security incident at the site. Unconfirmed reports suggest that an unknown number of inmates were able to seize weapons from prison guards, sparking a firefight with security forces. Several explosions have also been reported although the number of casualties from the incident is yet to be confirmed.
Security operations are likely in the vicinity of the Central Prison in the near term.

Those in Mogadishu are advised to avoid the area of the incident, monitor developments, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
