According to media sources the clashes took place in the Rathedaung and Buthidaung townships. On Sunday, AA rebels reportedly conducted two attacks on border guard police along the Inn Din-Taungyo road, resulting in at least one police officer killed and several others wounded. Fighting continued on Monday as rebels attacked Myanmar military troops and government officials in Inn Dinvillage. Media sources suggest that fighting ensued between the rebels and military personnel for several hours. At least nine security personnel were killed in Monday's clashes and several others remain missing. The AA group claimed to have killed 20 soldiers and police, and abducted several others during the fighting. Scores of residents fled the area as the fighting continued.
Further attacks and counter operations between the forces are likely in the state in the near term.
