08/07/2020 (Italy) - Authorities issued evacuation orders for areas surrounding Planpincieux glacier in Mont Blanc on Wednesday, August 5, as blocks of ice threaten to crash down from a surrounding glacier. The ice glacier at risk of collapse is located above the Val Ferret valley, near the Courmayeur ski resort, and has been weakened in recent weeks due to intense daytime heat combined with colder nights during the summer season. Several roads leading to the Val Farret area also reportedly remain closed as a precaution as of Friday, August 7. Experts monitoring the glacier reported that it may collapse at any time.
An emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.

Individuals in the vicinity of Val Farret and surrounding areas are advised to monitor the situation, avoid the area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
